Life in Africa Foundation supports community based
organizations in Kampala and Gulu through facilitating an active Ugandan
community presence in global grassroots action networks online.
The organization is currently restructuring to
expand the delivery of webbed empowerment services to community based
organizations across the East Africa region. An accountant with experience
in microfinance is needed to develop and manage accounting systems for
tracking community program budgets and internet-funded microloans.
Position Title:
Chief Accountant, reporting
to the Directors at Life in Africa USA and Life in Africa Foundation
(Uganda).
Hours:
This is a permanent, full time salaried position. The Chief Accountant will
be home-based working 40 hours/week with daily online communication and 15
field days per month (10 days in Northern Uganda, 5 days in Kampala-Kireka).
Travel costs, computer equipment and internet access will be provided by
the organization.
Qualifications:
- Min 30 years of age
- Certified accountant
- Must speak and write english fluently.
- 5 years working experience, with minimum 2 years
experience working for a Microfinance institution.
- Must be able to provide verifiable business and
personal references
Responsibilities:
- Maintain all financial records of programs and
activities financed through the Foundation.
- Develop, implement, maintain and monitor
accounting procedures for microfinance funding, loan programs and
recovery activities.
- Compile and submit monthly and annual reports to
Life in Africa
Foundation management, Life in Africa USA and other donors.
- Communicate regularly via the Internet with Life
in Africa staff and management about the status of Life in Africa
Foundation's accounts, responding within 48 hours to communications from
Life in Africa management and/or staff.
- Monitor and record all local and international
banking activities undertaken by Life in Africa Foundation and
subsidiary Community Based Organizations.
- Assist in development and maintenance of program
budgets and program accounting systems at Life in Africa supported CBOs.
- Provide capacity building, advice and training to
Life in Africa program management staff on developing sound accounting
principles and reporting procedures.
Salary:
Negotiable based on work experience, salary history and personal fit with
the organization.
