Announcement:

Life in Africa Foundation supports community based organizations in Kampala and Gulu through facilitating an active Ugandan community presence in global grassroots action networks online. The organization is currently restructuring to expand the delivery of webbed empowerment services to community based organizations across the East Africa region. 

In this context, Life in Africa is hiring 2 Administrators to coordinate community program planning, management and reporting at the newly independent Life in Africa Community Based Organizations in Kampala-Kireka and Gulu.

Position Title:

Community Administrator
2 positions available: in Kampala-Kireka and in Gulu

Hours:

This is a full time salaried position that requires 38 hours per week minimum on location at the Life in Africa Community Center assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • 30 years old (younger applicants must have at least 2 years of active Life in Africa member/staff experience)
  • S6 leaving certificate minimum + at least 2 years experience working in a fast-paced organizational environment.
  • Fluent written and spoken english
  • Internet literate, with additional computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet management.
  • Must have good personal and organizational skills, an ability to work unsupervised, and the ability to lead, motivate and supervise a team.
  • Verifiable personal and professional references

Responsibilities:

  • Leads the development, planning and implementation of a community developed strategy for the Center to achieve operational sustainability through making a positive impact on local community life.
  • Chairs weekly staff meetings & monthly member meetings.
  • Maintains organizational budget control.
  • Develops job descriptions, hiring processes, salary levels and supervise all CBO staff, including payments and a staff evaluation process.
  • Coordinates local and international volunteer assignments in cooperation with Life in Africa USA
  • Coordinates creation and regular maintenance of  online and offline files with complete information on member households and member family participation in CBO programs.
  • Handles all operational expenses and logistics to facilitate daily Center operations. Oversee all security, maintenance and repairs needed to ensure smooth daily operations at the CBO Center.
  • Performs all banking duties for the CBO. providing receipts, documentation and banking reports to the Life in Africa Chief Accountant.
  • Approves all program budget expenditures upon request of program managers. Seek approval for unplanned expenditures of program funds from the Life in Africa Foundation, Director of Ugandan Communities.
  • Manages the Center's adherance to donor reporting requirements, including, but not limited to, team narrative, photo and budget reports required by Life in Africa online.
  • Submits Monthly Reports to Life in Africa Foundation and the CBO Governing Board including:
    • Details of all operational expenditures
    • An overview of Center activities and member participation during the month
    • Activities planned for the coming month
    • Staff meeting notes
    • Membership meeting report
  • Submits monthly financial activity reports including:
    • local gallery inventory changes and sales
    • local production of special orders
    • program budget status, needs and changes
    • any other financial activity as appropriate
  • Collaborates with Life in Africa Foundation, Life in Africa USA and other CBOs in the development of standardized monthly reporting systems.
  • Provides timely and accurate information about the Center's activities to the CBO members and governing board, Life in Africa Foundation, Life in Africa USA and other partners/donors upon request.

Salary:

The administrator is responsible for establishing salary levels according to the operational budgets available. To ease the transition toward each CBO's operational sustainability, funding of shs600,000 per month for a Community Administrator will be provided by Life in Africa USA for a period of 12 months.
