| A
boy's life in Northern Uganda
One night, "Innocent"
was abducted from his home by soldiers of the Lords Resistance Army (LRA). The rebels beat his parents badly when they tried to prevent the abduction. For 3 long years
Innocent was held captive by the LRA and bore witness to atrocious acts of violence.
He cries as he recites his
LRA experiences, but life has also not been easy since his escape. He is often ridiculed and taunted by
neighbors within the IDP Camp who call him a ‘rebel’. Many of the other children avoid him as he is seen as being ‘bad’.
Innocent is
now 14 and plays for the Senior Red Team in Unyama IDP Camp where he
resides with his parents. He tells us that when he is playing football he doesn't feel isolated
anymore. He feels like he is making friends and can’t think about the war. |
