When a new member
joins a Life in Africa WE Center, the first thing they get to
start earning is bunches and bunches of bananas. No,
they aren't the kind you can eat... they're better! The more
bananas you earn, the more LiA benefits you get.
Community guaranteed
lending
Life
in Africa emphasizes job creation, and then encourages
members earning new incomes to leverage their earnings for
investing in the long term security of their families. LiA offers qualified members in good standing the
opportunity to apply for small loans on the Internet, backed
by a LiA community guarantee. After the member loan plans
have been prepared and approved by LiA's loan review
committee, Kiva.org promotes them to global grassroots
investors for funding.

Product promotion
Artists and craftmaking
members at LiA work together to cooperatively promote their
products in the WE Center member galleries and at local
event venues. The
WE Marketplace
blog launched in 2006 as a
new tool for promoting member wares and cause-related
campaigns to a global audience online.
Commercial banking
Members
who earn an income at Life in Africa are connected with
commercial banking services and training on how to use their
account through Stanbic Bank. For most members this is the
first bank account they have ever owned. Thanks to this LiA
connection, even our IDP camp members now have a safe place
to keep their earnings.
Website hosting
Low
cost website hosting with excellent customer service is
available to LiA member organizations in Uganda through a
special billing and service agreement with beHosting, LiA's
webhost since 2000.
Online integration &
training
From
basic email services to advanced online ecommerce tools,
LiA's Internet4Change program offers practical online
training for every skill level. i4c's advanced earn and
learn program enables trainees to master and use complex
online skills to become agents for change in their
communities and in the lives of people around them.
