WE Gulu :: 16 Dec 06 :: setting off from the WE Center, on the way to clean up GuluRecycling for Peace

Since late 2006, the LiA CAN! program's Recycling for Peace campaign has exposed Life in Africa WE Center members in Uganda to craft making skills that add value to things which others might throw away.

Used bottle-tops became Christmas ornaments, old plastic bags became wristbands, and our Jungle Beads line of paper bead jewelry was born. These unique earth-friendly products are now being sold to provide funding for programs that the WE Center communities in Kampala and Gulu have told us they want.

What can you do with a Jungle Garland?

Every 56" Jungle Garland purchased before 31 Jan 08 pays 1 week of school for a needy Ugandan child. Wear and share yours proudly!

The webbed impact of wearing or giving Life in Africa's Recycling for Peace craft items goes much further than just fundraising. Life in Africa's children have been sensitized to important local environmental issues, community clean-ups and member incentives to collect recyclables have been organized, and our communities have worked together to innovate new designs and quality control measures.

During group production time, the craft-making groups also learn about health and household topics,  dialogue about post-war challenges in their families at home, and earn a share of the group's monthly production value purchased by Life in Africa to sell to you.
